The Photographs of Ethan Russell: Let it Bleed - The Rolling Stones 1969 US Tour

Photo exhibition and book presentation

Proud Central presents the exclusive UK debut of acclaimed photographer Ethan Russell's hit exhibition. LET IT BLEED: THE ROLLING STONES 1969 U.S. TOUR. After opening to rave reviews in the US and Europe, LET IT BLEED will give UK audiences their first chance to see the full story of that infamous tour through stunning live and backstage images from the only photographer to shoot covers for the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Who, including some of the last photos taken of Brian Jones before his death.

These intimate, breathtaking photographs comprise the most personal collection of its kind ever produced.

Previously unpublished images examine the highs and lows of life on tour, almost 40 years since five Rolling Stones and their traveling companions set out on a cross-country journey that would leave its impact on the music world forever. LET IT BLEED transports the viewer to those last days of the 1960s through backstage photographs and spectacular live shots, brought to life by the testimony of those who saw it all first-hand, exploring private and surprising stories that reveal the truth behind the story you think you already know.

"It's important this work gets to be seen. Ethan was doing something no other photographer was doing at the time.'' Annie Leibovitz

“Brilliant.” – TIME.com

Often the only person on stage who was not a Rolling Stone, Russell and his camera accompanied the band and 10 others across America to capture the intimate moments of what started as the Stones' best tour yet until those historic events at Altamont Speedway. LET IT BLEED depicts the transformation of a band, a country and a generation on the cusp of a new era and for the first time through beautiful images and eye witness accounts that evoke the essence of the ‘behind-the-scenes’ experience.

The exhibition will also see the UK launch of Russell's stunning 420-page collectors-edition book of the same title, which will be available in the UK at Proud for the duration of the show.

"Congratulations on a wonderful (and heavy!) book,. I loved it."

Bill Wyman

'The book is fucking magnificent... the best work I've ever seen on a musical tour."

Jim Marshall

"Stunning... resonating with cultural history... a tour de force of images, onstage and off."
